The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria plans to offer the first five degrees adapted to the European Higher Education Area as of the next academic year (1009/2010). The degrees are listed below:
pau
  • Degree in Translation and Interpreting English-French
  • Degree in Translation and Interpreting English-German
  • Degree in History
  • Degree in Geography and Land Use
  • Degree in Physical Activity and Sports Science
Thus,  20% of the ULPGC’s centres are now in a position to offer adapted degrees before the time limit of 2010-2011, which is the academic year by which all degrees offered must be adapted to the new education model. It is particularly noteworthy that 60% of the degrees offered in Humanities at the ULPGC are among those that are ahead of schedule.

All the Deans involved in this first adaptation phase have acknowledged that the process has not been easy, as it has involved a change in methodology and in contents, bearing social needs in mind in order to offer training in line with current market demands. Thus, for example, Translation and Interpreting offers one degree to prepare students to work in the immediate surrounding area, specialising in English and French and including Arabic as a fourth language, and a second degree oriented towards relations with central Europe and the Eastern European countries, specialising in English and German, with Russian as a fourth language. The new degree in Geography and Land Use has increased the use of new technologies to 60%, as required by today’s society.
