The President of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, José Regidor García, and the President of the Regional Government of the Canary Islands, Paulino Rivero Baute, have conferred the Excellence Awards on ULPGC students.

The awards, conceded by the Regional Department for Education, Culture and Sports of the Canary Islands’ Government, distinguish those students with the best academic results. One of the requisites for participating in the call for candidates is to have obtained an average mark of 7.5 or more. In this third edition, the Regional Government of the Canary Islands presented a total of 100 awards to the most brilliant students currently studying at the Universities of the Canary Islands, 73 of which corresponded to students of the ULPGC.

Specifically, ULPGC students have obtained 7 awards in Humanities  (100%), 40 in Social and Legal Sciences (85.2%), 7 in Health Sciences (70%) and 25 in Engineering and Architecture (80.7%). ULPGC students have obtained top marks in Humanities, Social and Legal Sciences and Health Sciences.

The Office of the Vice-president of Students and Complementary Training (Extensión Universitaria) of the ULPGC has gone to considerable lengths to inform students, thereby ensuring that ULPGC students were able to apply for these awards. The Awards and Grants Service of the ULPGC contacted all those students who fulfilled the basic requirements for these awards personally, as a result of which some 561 requests were received, out of the total of 822 requests registered for the two universities.
