The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has held the official academic inauguration of the Confucius Centre, located within the ULPGC. The Confucius Centre is located in the La Granja building, on the San José University Campus, and is dedicated to the dissemination of Chinese language and culture. Spanish for Chinese speakers is currently being taught at three levels, and Chinese language and culture for Spaniards is also being taught at different levels.

The President of the ULPGC, José Regidor, expressed his satisfaction at the signing of an agreement with the Chinese government that has enabled the Confucius Centre to be set up, given the complexity of the negotiations carried out by the Vice-President’s Office for International and Institutional Affairs, as it was originally understood that the Centre’s presence in Spain was sufficiently covered by the centres in Madrid, Granada, Valencia and Barcelona. The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has convinced its interlocutors of the strategic importance of this Confucius Centre in the Canary Islands, particularly now that the Tricontinental Atlantic Campus has been designated a Campus of Excellence, in clear recognition of its value.
