Each academic year some 1,000 students from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria visit a European university on an Erasmus Exchange and the same number of European students visits the ULPGC. The European Commission is working on the introduction of a new programme for 2014, for which it has announced that the funding for Erasmus programmes will triple. The ultimate aim is for 20% of all university students to be able to go on exchange by 2020.

Why choose the ULPGC? For a number of reasons, including its international location, studies, services and privileged setting, among others. Students who choose the ULPGC will discover a technologically advanced university, with wireless connections in all its campuses, extensive sports installations, libraries offering laptop loans, university residences, a language centre… and all this in a privileged setting, with average annual temperatures of around 20 degrees centigrade and a cosmopolitan, active and very welcoming city.

Moreover, our students also enjoy the benefits of psychosocial care services, work placements in public and private companies, a job vacancies notification system or support for entrepreneurial initiatives, an area in which the ULPGC has received national recognition.

The ULPGC offers qualifications in all areas of knowledge, some of which can be taken as double degrees and others on-line, an area in which the ULPGC has registered significant growth, with some 2,000 students of the current total figure of 26,000 choosing this option.

The ULPGC firmly backs internationalization and is one of the most active Spanish universities in the development of Exchange programmes, as well as in international development cooperation programmes, both with Africa and Latin America. The ULPGC has a Confucius Institute where Chinese language and culture can be studied, a strategic area linked to the broadening of the study programmes on offer thanks to the creation of specialized fields of Chinese language and culture, as well as the Erasmus Mundus Qualifications and the signing of agreements for joint degrees with other universities.

The ULPGC is an examining centre for the Diploma in Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE) and also certifies language levels for various European languages, through CLES (the Association of Higher Education Language Centres).
