The aim of mobility programmes is to enhance education quality and diversity, which as so necessary in view of the harmonisation process of the European of Higher Education Area.
The mobility programmes of the ULPGC are listed below:
  • LLP/Erasmus
  • Sicue Séneca
  • Latin America- USA - Australia
  • Bilateral programmes with Russia, United Kingdom and USA
  • Unamuno II
All these programmes are carried out with the financial support of the Spanish Body for European Education Programmes (OAPEE, in Spanish), and with specific contributions from Bancaja, the Santander Bank, the Spanish Ministry for Science and Innovation, the Island Councils of the Canary Islands, the Canary Islands Regional Government and MAPFRE Guanarteme Canary Islands Foundation and the ULPGC.

Student mobility is achieved by spending a study period or work placement in a higher education institution in another country. At the end of the designated period, the student’s home institution recognises the studies completed to academic effects. During their period abroad, students are exempt from academic fees in their host institutions. Students from higher education institutions in possession of an ERASMUS UNIVERSITY LETTTERY or a BILATERAL EXCHANGE AGREEMENT can take part in these programmes. Aid for mobility students is compatible with other types of grants or national loans.

In each academic year, some 1,500 students took part in ULPGC mobility programmes. Incoming students enjoy a Welcome Week to help them find their feet in their new university life.

We receive students from a wide range of countries, such as Germany, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Costa Rica, Chile, Denmark, Slovenia, the United States, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Great Britain, the Czech Republic, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland and Uruguay.

During the Welcome Week, students are informed, among other things, about timetables and programmed activities, and they are put in touch with ULPGC students who act as mentors for the young foreigners, helping them to find accommodation and to find their way around the city and the university services. Students are also given a Guide to University City Resources, drawn up in conjunction with the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Leisure activities organised by the ULPGC for exchange students include: visits to the beach, a boat trip, multi-adventure activities and guided tours of Arucas, Teror and Agaete, among other options. Moreover, students may also take Spanish lessons for foreigners, organised by the ULPGC:

There are four lines of mobility for teaching and research staff. They can teach, receive training, set up relations with other universities or higher education institutions, with a view to paving the way for future agreements for exchange students, and work together with other institutions on research. This fourth modality is specifically aimed at researchers who are directing PhD theses.

There is a mobility programme for Administrative and Service Staff enabling them to receive training in higher education institutions, be they universities or companies. This type of mobility has to be carried out within a working plan authorised both by the home institution and by the host institution or company.
